<abstract abstract-type="author-highlights" id="abs0005"> <title id="sect0005">Highlights</title> <sec> <p id="spar0005"> <list id="lis0005"> <list-item id="lsti0005"> <label></label> <p id="par0005">We used HapMap Project data and TCHS cohort to compensate for the limitation of candidate-gene approach.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0010"> <label></label> <p id="par0010">We performed deep sequencing to identify novel variants around rs324011 in <italic>STAT6</italic> gene and a total of seven variants were found, including rs167769.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0015"> <label></label> <p id="par0015">T allele of rs324011 increased the risk of childhood AD and haplotypes (rs167769/rs324011) was significantly associated with childhood AD in Taiwanese population.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0020"> <label></label> <p id="par0020">T alleles of both rs324011 and rs167769 would enhance <italic>STAT6</italic> promoter activities in luciferase assay.</p> </list-item> </list> </p> </sec> </abstract>
