<abstract xml:lang="en" abstract-type="author-highlights" id="ab005"> <title id="st030">Highlights</title> <sec> <p id="sp0005"> <list id="l0005"> <list-item id="o0005"> <label></label> <p id="p0095">We reviewed 29 pregnant women with respiratory failure who required mechanical ventilation.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="o0010"> <label></label> <p id="p0100">Ventilatory approach was similar to non-pregnant patients.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="o0015"> <label></label> <p id="p0105">Mild hypercapnia was common and may be tolerated in pregnancy.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="o0020"> <label></label> <p id="p0110">Delivery of the baby improved respiratory function in some but not all patients.</p> </list-item> </list> </p> </sec> </abstract>
