- <abstract abstract-type="main"> <title> <x xml:space="preserve">Abstract</x> </title> <sec id="head12617-sec-0001" sec-type="section"> <title>Background/Objectives</title> <p>Many biochemical, pharmacological, neuropathological, and experimental data suggest a possible role of nitric oxide in the pathogenesis of migraine. We investigated the possible association between functional single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the <italic>neuronal nitric oxide synthase</italic> gene (<italic>NOS</italic><italic>1</italic> or <italic>nNOS</italic>; chromosome 12q24.22) and the risk for migraine.</p> </sec> <sec id="head12617-sec-0002" sec-type="section"> <title>Methods</title> <p>We studied the frequency of the of rs7977109 and rs693534 genotypes and allelic variants in 197 patients with migraine and 308 healthy controls using a <italic>T</italic><italic>aq</italic><italic>M</italic><italic>an</italic>‐based qPCR assay.
