- <abstract abstract-type="graphical" xml:lang="en" id="ppsc201500081-abs-0001"> <title> <x xml:space="preserve">Abstract</x> </title> <p> <bold>Active materials for lithium battery anodes</bold> are infiltrated deep into mesoporous monodisperse starburst carbon spheres. The active materials, silicon and iron oxide (Fe<sub>3</sub>O<sub>4</sub>), deposit deep inside the mesopores yet maintain full access to both the lithium‐ion and electron‐transport networks. Additionally, for the Fe<sub>3</sub>O<sub>4</sub>, charge–discharge hysteresis is reduced. <graphic position="anchor" mimetype="image" xlink:href="ark:/27927/pgkkxk9rbw" orientation="portrait" xlink:type="simple" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" /></p> </abstract>
