Abstract

<abstract abstract-type="main" xml:lang="en"> <title>Abstract</title> <p>Two new sesquiterpenes, cyperusol A₃ (<bold>1</bold>) and 3<italic>β</italic>‐hydroxycyperenoic acid (<bold>2</bold>), along with three known sesquiterpenes, britanlin E (<bold>3</bold>), 1<italic>β</italic>, 4<italic>α</italic>‐dihydroxyeudesm‐11‐ene (<bold>4</bold>), and 11, 12‐dihydroxyeudesm‐4‐en‐3‐one (<bold>5</bold>), were isolated from the AcOEt‐soluble fraction of rhizomes of <italic>Cyperus rotundus</italic> L. The structures of <bold>1</bold> and <bold>2</bold> were elucidated by physical and spectroscopic methods (¹H‐ and ¹³C‐NMR, 2D‐NMR, and MS). All of the isolates, <bold>1</bold>–<bold>5</bold>, were evaluated for their cytotoxic activities against human ovarian cancer cells (A2780) and endometrial adenocarcinoma cells (<italic>Ishikawa</italic>) using MTT assays.</p> </abstract>
