<abstract xml:lang="en" abstract-type="author-highlights" id="ab010"> <title id="st040">Highlights</title> <sec> <p id="sp0025"> <list id="l0005"> <list-item id="o0005"> <label></label> <p id="p0060">Confusion and expressive aphasia can be associated with new cortical venous reflux (CVR) in the setting of dural carotid cavernous fistula (DCCF).</p> </list-item> <list-item id="o0010"> <label></label> <p id="p0065">Diagnosis of DCCF must be considered in a patient with acute stroke-like symptoms.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="o0015"> <label></label> <p id="p0070">Most DCCF present with glaucoma, proptosis, ophthalmoparesis and conjunctival injection.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="o0020"> <label></label> <p id="p0075">DCCF presenting symptoms may regress with spontaneous thrombosis of the fistula.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="o0025"> <label></label> <p id="p0080">DCCF natural history is unknown but there is a risk for venous hemorrhage or infarction with CVR.</p> </list-item> </list> </p> </sec> </abstract>
