<abstract abstract-type="toc"> <title> <x xml:space="preserve">Abstract</x> </title> <p> <graphic position="anchor" id="ga" xlink:href="ark:/27927/pgj2qs2xq37" xlink:type="simple" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" />After selective modification with a host–guest complex, 5-methylcytosine and 5-hydroxymethylcytosine in ssDNA can be unambiguously detected by the generation of characteristic current events during the translocation of the modified DNA through α-hemolysin nanopores.</p> </abstract>
