<abstract xml:lang="en" abstract-type="author-highlights" id="ab005"> <title id="st125">Highlights</title> <sec> <p id="sp0005"> <list id="l0005"> <list-item id="o0005"> <label></label> <p id="p0235">We investigated the effects of deep hypothermia on the human electroencephalogram.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="o0010"> <label></label> <p id="p0240">Hypothermia induces a burst-suppression with bursts that are progressively longer and lower in amplitude, while the spectral content of bursts remains largely constant.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="o0015"> <label></label> <p id="p0245">These findings support a model in which burst suppression across diverse etiologies arises from widespread cyclical depletion of cerebral metabolic resources.</p> </list-item> </list> </p> </sec> </abstract>
