<abstract xml:lang="en" abstract-type="author-highlights" id="ab005"> <title id="st065">Highlights</title> <sec> <p id="sp0005"> <list id="l0005"> <list-item id="o0005"> <label></label> <p id="p0110">Axonal excitability and its correlation with serum VEGF and nerve edema detected by ultrasound were studied in POEMS syndrome.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="o0010"> <label></label> <p id="p0115">Excitability testing suggested possibly altered sodium, potassium, and inward rectifying currents, some of which were correlated with VEGF levels and nerve edema.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="o0015"> <label></label> <p id="p0120">In addition to structural changes (demyelination), nerve edema induced by upregulated VEGF, and upregulated inflammatory cytokines can modulate profiles of POEMS neuropathy.</p> </list-item> </list> </p> </sec> </abstract>
