<abstract abstract-type="author-highlights" id="abs0005"> <title id="sect0005">Highlights</title> <sec> <p id="spar0070"> <list id="lis0005"> <list-item id="lsti0005"> <label></label> <p id="par0005">We investigated familial colorectal cancer risk.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0010"> <label></label> <p id="par0010">Monogenetic cancer syndromes were systematically excluded.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0015"> <label></label> <p id="par0015">First degree relatives to colorectal cancer patients have a 2-fold increased risk of the disease.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0020"> <label></label> <p id="par0020">The risk is not further increased in first degree relatives to patients diagnosed young.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0025"> <label></label> <p id="par0025">Having multiple affected relatives does not give a further increase in the risk.</p> </list-item> </list> </p> </sec> </abstract>
