Abstract

<abstract abstract-type="main" xml:lang="en"> <title>Abstract</title> <p>A new subergane‐type sesquiterpene, named epoxysubergorgic acid (<bold>1</bold>), along with seven known sesquiterpenes, were isolated from the gorgonian coral <italic>Subergorgia suberosa.</italic> The structure of the new compound was determined by extensive spectroscopic analyses. The previously uncertain absolute configuration of the known analogues <bold>2</bold>–<bold>6</bold> was determined on the basis of CD, <italic>Mosher</italic>'s method, and through chemical conversions. All compounds were evaluated for antibacterial activities.</p> </abstract>
