Abstract

<abstract abstract-type="main" xml:lang="en"> <title>Abstract</title> <p>The first copper‐catalyzed aerobic oxidative C(aryl)OH bond functionalization of catechols is reported. Under air, at room temperature, in the presence of a copper catalyst, catechols react with amines to produce the corresponding benzoxazoles in high yields. Mechanistic studies suggest that the reaction proceeds <italic>via</italic> an intriguing competitive oxidation and a synergetic catalysis between catechol and amine.</p> <p> <graphic position="anchor" mimetype="image" xlink:href="ark:/27927/pgj2n0t4q02" orientation="portrait" xlink:type="simple" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" /> </p> </abstract>
