Abstract

<abstract abstract-type="author-highlights" id="abs0005"> <title id="sect0005">Highlights</title> <sec> <p id="spar0035"> <list id="lis0005"> <list-item id="lsti0005"> <label></label> <p id="par0005">We assess differences between users and non-users of secure messaging for medications list update.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0010"> <label></label> <p id="par0010">Overall, secure message response rate was significantly lower than that for phone call based requests.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0015"> <label></label> <p id="par0015">Response rate was highest among patients aged 41–70 and lowest among patients aged over 70.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0020"> <label></label> <p id="par0020">The time to complete medication list update was similar for secure messaging and phone call requests.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0025"> <label></label> <p id="par0025">Mixed mode communication with patients should continue to be the norm in outpatient settings.</p> </list-item> </list> </p> </sec> </abstract>
