- <abstract abstract-type="main" id="pbi12341-abs-0001"> <title>Summary</title> <p>Leucine‐rich repeat receptor‐like proteins (LRR‐RLPs) are highly adaptable parts of the signalling apparatus for extracellular detection of plant pathogens. Resistance to blackleg disease of <italic>Brassica</italic> spp. caused by <italic>Leptosphaeria maculans</italic> is largely governed by host race‐specific <italic>R</italic>‐genes, including the LRR‐RLP gene <italic>LepR3</italic>. The blackleg resistance gene <italic>Rlm2</italic> was previously mapped to the same genetic interval as <italic>LepR3</italic>. In this study, the <italic>LepR3</italic> locus of the <italic>Rlm2</italic><italic>Brassica napus</italic> line 'Glacier DH24287' was cloned, and <italic>B. napus</italic> transformants were analysed for recovery of the <italic>Rlm2</italic> phenotype. Multiple <italic>B. napus</italic>, <italic> B. rapa</italic> and <italic>B. juncea</italic> lines were assessed for sequence variation at the locus. <italic>Rlm2</italic> was found to be an allelic variant of the <italic>LepR3</italic> LRR‐RLP locus, conveying race‐specific resistance to <italic>L. maculans</italic> isolates harbouring <italic>AvrLm2</italic>. Several defence‐related LRR‐RLPs have previously been shown to associate with the RLK SOBIR1 to facilitate defence signalling.
