<abstract abstract-type="author-highlights" id="abs0005"> <title id="sect0005">Highlights</title> <sec> <p id="spar0005"> <list id="lis0005"> <list-item id="lsti0005"> <label></label> <p id="par0005">Six attributes of oral health in the early medieval Irish are presented.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0010"> <label></label> <p id="par0010">Men show significantly higher prevalence of abscesses, heavy wear and alveolar bone resorption.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0015"> <label></label> <p id="par0015">Women exhibit significantly higher prevalence of calculus.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0020"> <label></label> <p id="par0020">Dental wear associated with habitual activities was recorded in two females.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0025"> <label></label> <p id="par0025">The diet of the early Irish was rich in carbohydrates with sporadic use of meat.</p> </list-item> </list> </p> </sec> </abstract>
