Abstract

<abstract abstract-type="graphical" xml:lang="en" id="smll201403659-abs-0001"> <title> <x xml:space="preserve">Abstract</x> </title> <p> <bold>Synthetic hemozoin crystals (β‐hematin)</bold> are assembled with aluminium nanoparticles (nAl) to create a nanomaterial composite that is highly energetic and reactive. The results here demonstrate that hemozoin rapidly oxidizes the nAl fuel to release large amounts of energy (+12.5 ± 2.4 kJ g⁻¹). <graphic position="anchor" mimetype="image" xlink:href="ark:/27927/pgj2c0skhgg" orientation="portrait" xlink:type="simple" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" /></p> </abstract>
