- <abstract abstract-type="synopsis" xml:lang="en" id="embj201490693-abs-0002"> <title>Synopsis</title> <p> <boxed-text content-type="graphic" id="embj201490693-blkfxd-0001" position="anchor" orientation="portrait"> <graphic position="anchor" mimetype="image" xlink:href="ark:/27927/pgj2f0rj4dh" orientation="portrait" xlink:type="simple" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" /> </boxed-text> </p> <p>Combining transcriptome analysis and patient data, this study illustrates how JNK signaling drives EMT progression via a panel of specific transcription factors, several of which are linked to EMT for the first time.</p> <p> <list id="embj201490693-list-0001" list-type="bullet"> <list-item> <p>JNK signaling is essential for progression of epithelial to mesenchymal transition (EMT).</p> </list-item> <list-item> <p>EMT relies on JNK‐dependent transcriptional reprogramming of many crucial EMT genes.</p> </list-item> <list-item> <p>JNK‐induced novel transcription factors are critically required for acquisition and maintenance of the mesenchymal fate.</p> </list-item> <list-item> <p>These novel factors are highly expressed in invasive cancer cells where they function in gene regulation to maintain metastatic identity.</p> </list-item> <list-item> <p>These factors were also induced during neuronal development and function in neuronal migration <italic>in vivo</italic>.</p> </list-item> </list> </p> </abstract>
