<abstract abstract-type="graphical" xml:lang="en"> <title> <x xml:space="preserve">Abstract</x> </title> <p>With added nucleotide "letters" nucleic acids can be incorporated into RNA in a functional form. In their Communication on <ext-link ext-link-type="doi" xlink:type="simple" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">page 9853 ff</ext-link>, the Piccirilli and Benner groups joined to deliver the first molecular structure (symbolized by the "photographs" in the picture) of a functional RNA molecule built from a six nucleotide alphabet (G, A, U, C, and the artificial nucleotides Z and P).<graphic position="anchor" mimetype="image" xlink:href="ark:/27927/pgj2dcgd96f" orientation="portrait" xlink:type="simple" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" /></p> </abstract>
