<abstract abstract-type="author-highlights" id="abs0005"> <title> <x xml:space="preserve">Abstract</x> </title> <sec> <title id="sect0005">Highlights</title> <p id="spar0005"> <list id="lis0005"> <list-item id="lsti0005"> <label></label> <p id="par0005">Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) is a chronic and economically devastating disease of pigs since the late 1980s.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0010"> <label></label> <p id="par0010">Although modified live-attenuated PRRSV (PRRSV-MLV) vaccines have been used since 1995, control of PRRS globally is still a challenge.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0015"> <label></label> <p id="par0015">PRRSV-MLV provides incomplete protection against existing and emerging genetically variant field isolates.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0020"> <label></label> <p id="par0020">Promising approaches to improve PRRSV-MLV efficacy, are under experimental study.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0025"> <label></label> <p id="par0025">This review highlights the current status and future directions of infectious PRRSV vaccine.</p> </list-item> </list> </p> </sec> </abstract>
