<abstract xml:lang="en" abstract-type="author-highlights" id="ab005"> <title id="st070">Highlights</title> <sec> <p id="sp0005"> <list id="l0005"> <list-item id="o0005"> <label></label> <p id="p0190">Routine electrophysiological testing cannot assess small nerve fiber types (Aδ and C).</p> </list-item> <list-item id="o9000"> <p id="p9000">These fibers are commonly affected earlier in diabetic small fiber neuropathy (SFN).</p> </list-item> <list-item id="o0010"> <label></label> <p id="p0195">Non-invasive tests such as CSP and QSART can directly evaluate these fiber types.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="o0015"> <label></label> <p id="p0200">Combining these two tests can detect SFN from diabetes and impaired glucose tolerance.</p> </list-item> </list> </p> </sec> </abstract>
