<abstract abstract-type="author-highlights" id="abs0005"> <title id="sect0005">Highlights</title> <sec> <p id="spar0005"> <list id="lis0005"> <list-item id="lsti0005"> <label></label> <p id="par0005">In colorectal cancer patients with liver metastases resection should always be attempted.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0010"> <label></label> <p id="par0010">In case of synchronous metastases overall survival is not affected by timing of surgery (concomitant vs. staged).</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0015"> <label></label> <p id="par0015">In case of synchronous metastases in a fit patient, concomitant resection may result in lower postoperative morbidity.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0020"> <label></label> <p id="par0020">Systemic peri-operative or adjuvant chemotherapy may improve progression free survival.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0025"> <label></label> <p id="par0025">Overall survival is not affected by the use of adjuvant chemotherapy.</p> </list-item> </list> </p> </sec> </abstract>
