Abstract

<abstract abstract-type="author-highlights" id="abs0005"> <title id="sect0005">Highlights</title> <sec> <p id="spar0005"> <list id="lis0005"> <list-item id="lsti0005"> <label></label> <p id="par0180">Four sites in Eastern African report a high incidence of oesophageal cancer (OC).</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0010"> <label></label> <p id="par0185">ASRs at all sites were higher than the mean worldwide ASR.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0015"> <label></label> <p id="par0190">Squamous cell OC was the predominant histologic subtype at all sites.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0020"> <label></label> <p id="par0195">This is a novel report of Eastern Africa as a high-incidence area for OC.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0025"> <label></label> <p id="par0200">Research is needed to confirm these findings and to evaluate possible etiologies.</p> </list-item> </list> </p> </sec> </abstract>
