Abstract

<abstract abstract-type="author-highlights" id="abs0005"> <title id="sect0005">Highlights</title> <sec> <p id="spar0005"> <list id="lis0005"> <list-item id="lsti0005"> <label></label> <p id="par0005">Higher insulin levels have been associated with greater colorectal cancer risk.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0010"> <label></label> <p id="par0010">Whether insulin is similarly related to colorectal adenomas (colorectal cancer precursors) is unclear.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0015"> <label></label> <p id="par0015">We prospectively examined the relationship between C-peptide levels (a marker of insulin) and colorectal adenoma.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0020"> <label></label> <p id="par0020">No relationship between C-peptide and colorectal adenoma was observed.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0025"> <label></label> <p id="par0025">Our results suggest that non-insulin related molecular pathways may be more relevant to early stages of colorectal tumorigenesis.</p> </list-item> </list> </p> </sec> </abstract>
