<abstract abstract-type="author-highlights" id="abs0005"> <title id="sect0005">Highlights</title> <sec> <p id="spar0005"> <list id="lis0005"> <list-item id="lsti0005"> <label></label> <p id="par0005">Second primary lung tumors (SPLC) are common after a head and neck cancer (HNC).</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0010"> <label></label> <p id="par0010">HNC survivors presenting with lung cancer have a poor prognosis.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0015"> <label></label> <p id="par0015">Most metachronous SPLC are diagnosed in an advanced stage.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0020"> <label></label> <p id="par0020">Our study found a good prognosis in HNC survivors with early stage lung cancer.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0025"> <label></label> <p id="par0025">Periodic chest CT scans may have a role in HNC survivors.</p> </list-item> </list> </p> </sec> </abstract>
