- <abstract abstract-type="author" id="ab0005"> <title id="sect0005">Abstract</title> <sec> <p id="sp0080">Actinobacteria have special biotechnological importance since they produce chemically diverse compounds with a sample range of biological activity. In the present study the potential alkaloids producing marine actinobacterial strain NCS1 was isolated from the sediments of Nancowry Island, India which was identified as <italic>Nocardiopsis</italic> sp. based on chemotaxonomy, cultural, morphological and 16S rDNA sequencing. Further, the crude alkaloids were extracted and purified through column chromatography and characterized using a UV spectrophotometer and FT-IR spectrometer. It has potential antioxidant efficacy and cytotoxic effect against NCI-H460 cells. The highest antioxidant activity was observed at 100 µg/ml concentration for instance DPPH assay, total antioxidant, total reducing power, hydrogen peroxide, nitrous oxide and lipid peroxidation, respectively. Moreover, the cytotoxicity assay was done against NCI-H460 cell lines and IC<sub>50</sub> value was found to be 40 μg/ml. These results suggest that <italic>Nocardiopsis</italic> sp. NCS1 has novel antioxidant, cytotoxic activity and it has to be further characterized to improve the pharmacological native marine metabolites.</p> </sec> </abstract>
