<abstract abstract-type="author-highlights" id="abs0005"> <title id="sect0005">Highlights</title> <sec> <p id="spar0005"> <list id="lis0005"> <list-item id="lsti0005"> <label></label> <p id="par0005">The PAR for diabetes was assessed in a representative urban Indian population.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0010"> <label></label> <p id="par0010">1376 individuals from Chennai (South India) were followed up after 10 years.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0015"> <label></label> <p id="par0015">80% of the risk for diabetes could be explained by five modifiable factors.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0020"> <label></label> <p id="par0020">Translation of this information could help slow down the epidemic of diabetes.</p> </list-item> </list> </p> </sec> </abstract>
