<abstract abstract-type="author-highlights" id="abs0005"> <title id="sect0005">Highlights</title> <sec> <p id="spar0005"> <list id="lis0005"> <list-item id="lsti0005"> <label></label> <p id="par0005">Adipokines are known to be involved in the development of type 2 diabetes (T2DM).</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0010"> <label></label> <p id="par0010">Association of adipokines with T2DM in isolation and combination with HbA1c studied.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0015"> <label></label> <p id="par0015">Levels of adiponectin were lower and IL6 were higher in T2DM compared with normal.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0020"> <label></label> <p id="par0020">The addition of adiponectin to HbA1c improved the area-under-curve to predict T2DM.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0025"> <label></label> <p id="par0025">Combination of adiponectin and IL-6 did not improve the prediction over HbA1c alone.</p> </list-item> </list> </p> </sec> </abstract>
