Abstract

<abstract abstract-type="author-highlights" id="abs0005"> <title id="sect0005">Highlights</title> <sec> <p id="spar0005"> <list id="lis0005"> <list-item id="lsti0005"> <label></label> <p id="par0005">463 children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes were followed prospectively for 24 months after initiation of CSII therapy.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0010"> <label></label> <p id="par0010">Definition of metabolic response: a decrease in HbA_1c ≥ 1% or obtaining HbA_1c &lt; 7.5%.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0015"> <label></label> <p id="par0015">Only 32% were defined as responders after 24 months.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0020"> <label></label> <p id="par0020">Young age and either high or low HbA_1c at initiation predicted the outcome.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0025"> <label></label> <p id="par0025">The most important factor for good metabolic control when on the pump is taking frequent boluses.</p> </list-item> </list> </p> </sec> </abstract>
