Abstract

<abstract abstract-type="author-highlights" id="abs0005"> <title id="sect0005">Highlights</title> <sec> <p id="spar0005"> <list id="lis0005"> <list-item id="lsti0005"> <label></label> <p id="par0005">We assess impacts of HIE on utilization at a tertiary hospital following referrals.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0010"> <label></label> <p id="par0010">We found savings in total charges in the HIE group.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0015"> <label></label> <p id="par0015">Savings were mostly found in diagnostic tests and imaging.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0020"> <label></label> <p id="par0020">However, savings were not seen in drugs, outpatient visits and hospital stays.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0025"> <label></label> <p id="par0025">Physicians had access to more clinical information for HIE than non-HIE patients.</p> </list-item> </list> </p> </sec> </abstract>
