<abstract abstract-type="main"> <title> <x xml:space="preserve">Abstract</x> </title> <p>Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) are primary treatment options for major depressive and anxiety disorders. <italic>CYP2D6</italic> and <italic>CYP2C19</italic> polymorphisms can influence the metabolism of SSRIs, thereby affecting drug efficacy and safety. We summarize evidence from the published literature supporting these associations and provide dosing recommendations for fluvoxamine, paroxetine, citalopram, escitalopram, and sertraline based on <italic>CYP2D6</italic> and/or <italic>CYP2C19</italic> genotype (updates at <ext-link ext-link-type="uri" xlink:href="http://www.pharmgkb.org" xlink:type="simple" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">www.pharmgkb.org</ext-link>).</p> </abstract>
