<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en" id="bjd13711-abs-0002"> <title> <x xml:space="preserve">Abstract</x> </title> <p> <bold>What's already known about this topic?</bold> </p> <p> <list id="bjd13711-list-0001" list-type="bullet"> <list-item> <p>Despite the established pathogenic role of anti‐desmoglein (Dsg) antibodies in classical pemphigus, the significance of autoantibodies to another desmosomal cadherin, desmocollin (Dsc), is at present unknown.</p> </list-item> <list-item> <p>No consistent immunoassay for IgG autoantibodies to Dscs has been developed.</p> </list-item> </list> </p> <p> <bold>What does this study add?</bold> </p> <p> <list id="bjd13711-list-0002" list-type="bullet"> <list-item> <p>We have successfully established new sensitive and specific mammalian Dsc immunoglobulin (Ig) G enzyme‐linked immunosorbent assays.</p> </list-item> <list-item> <p>Our data show that IgG anti‐Dsc autoantibodies are frequently detected and potentially pathogenic in particular types of nonclassical pemphigus.</p> </list-item> </list> </p> </abstract>
