<abstract xml:lang="en" abstract-type="author-highlights" id="ab005"> <title> <x xml:space="preserve">Abstract</x> </title> <sec> <title id="st040">Highlights</title> <p id="sp0005"> <list id="l0005"> <list-item id="o0005"> <label></label> <p id="p0175">Relapses have a great impact on both the morbidity and mortality rates of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) patients.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="o0010"> <label></label> <p id="p0180">Molecular techniques add to the further understanding of these lesions and may provide tools for clinical management.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="o0015"> <label></label> <p id="p0185">This review discusses the limitations of the current OSCC relapse classification method.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="o0020"> <label></label> <p id="p0190">The manuscript presents possible alternatives to improve this classification based on molecular techniques.</p> </list-item> </list> </p> </sec> </abstract>
