Abstract

<abstract abstract-type="main" xml:lang="en"> <title>Abstract</title> <sec id="etc2917-sec-0001" sec-type="section"> <p>Northern bobwhite (<italic>Colinus virginianus</italic>) and scaled quail (<italic>Callipepla squamata</italic>) from the Rolling Plains ecoregion in Texas and Oklahoma were evaluated for organochlorine pesticides, Pb, and Hg. Of all organochlorine pesticides analyzed, only <italic>p, p</italic>′‐dichlorodiphenyldichloroethylene (<italic>p, p′‐</italic>DDE) and <italic>p, p′‐</italic>dichlorodiphenyldichloroethane (<italic>p, p</italic>′‐DDD) were found in a few composite liver samples. Similarly, a small fraction of tissue samples had detectable levels of Hg (liver and breast) or Pb exceeding background concentrations (femur).
