Abstract

<abstract xml:lang="en"> <title> <x xml:space="preserve">Abstract</x> </title> <p>Theodor Nöldeke's work <italic>Geschichte des Qorâns</italic> comprises numerous <italic>ḥadīth</italic> transmissions, some of which the author accepted and others of which he rejected. In the process, he critiques and highlights what he considers to be the shortcomings of the Islamic scholarly methodology of <italic>ḥadīth</italic> criticism. This paper undertakes a comprehensive study which aims to bring to light the various methodological differences between the Islamic method of attesting <italic>ḥadīth</italic> reports and that of Nöldeke.</p> </abstract>
