<abstract abstract-type="author-highlights" id="abs0005"> <title id="sect0005">Highlights</title> <sec> <p id="spar0005"> <list id="lis0005"> <list-item id="lsti0005"> <label></label> <p id="par0005">We compare the care burden and economic cost of two surgical approaches to hallux valgus correction.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0010"> <label></label> <p id="par0010">Care burden was assessed by the number of visits each patient required and the complications. The follow-up and costs of each were assessed and compared independently.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0015"> <label></label> <p id="par0015">Kramer osteotomy presented significantly higher care burdens, complication rates and associated costs during the first year of follow-up.</p> </list-item> </list> </p> </sec> </abstract>
