Abstract

<abstract abstract-type="graphical" xml:lang="en" id="smll201402320-abs-0001"> <title> <x xml:space="preserve">Abstract</x> </title> <p> <bold>Multishell</bold> <bold>Y₂O₃:Yb³⁺/Er³⁺ hollow spheres with uniform morphologies and controllable inner structures</bold> are prepared successfully by using a glucose‐template hydrothermal process followed by temperature‐programmed calcination. Much enhanced upconverted photoluminescence of these Y₂O₃:Yb³⁺/Er³⁺ are observed, which are due to the multiple reflections and the enhanced light‐harvesting efficiency of the NIR light resulting from the special features of the multishell structures. <graphic position="anchor" mimetype="image" xlink:href="ark:/27927/pgjwxk6jv6" orientation="portrait" xlink:type="simple" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" /></p> </abstract>
