- <abstract abstract-type="graphical" xml:lang="en" id="adma201500083-abs-0001"> <title> <x xml:space="preserve">Abstract</x> </title> <p> <bold>Direct evidence of Mg<sup>2+</sup> intercalation into a spinel‐type Mn<sub>2</sub>O<sub>4</sub></bold> is provided. By combining tools with different sensitivities, from atomic‐resolution X‐ray spectroscopy to bulk X‐ray diffraction, it is demonstrated that Mg<sup>2+</sup> reversibly occupies the tetrahedral sites of the spinel structure through the reduction of Mn when the electrochemical reaction is performed. <graphic position="anchor" mimetype="image" xlink:href="ark:/27927/pgjrk4h2hr" orientation="portrait" xlink:type="simple" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" /></p> </abstract>
