<abstract xml:lang="en" abstract-type="author-highlights" id="ab005"> <title id="st065">Highlights</title> <sec> <p id="sp0005"> <list id="l0005"> <list-item id="o0005"> <label></label> <p id="p0195">The effectiveness of two skin cleaning techniques after exposure to chemicals was investigated.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="o0010"> <label></label> <p id="p0200">The penetration through, but also the accumulation in the skin should be considered for risk assessment of chemicals.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="o0015"> <label></label> <p id="p0205">Skin cleaning with water reduces the penetration of hydrofluoric acid through and its deposition in the skin.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="o0020"> <label></label> <p id="p0210">The presented cleaning protocol could serve as an approach in the standardization of <italic>ex vivo</italic> skin decontamination studies.</p> </list-item> </list> </p> </sec> </abstract>
