Abstract

<abstract abstract-type="graphical" xml:lang="en" id="boc201400079-abs-0001"> <title>Research article</title> <p>Lymphangiogenesis is a negative prognostic marker for hepatocellular carcinoma. We used an <italic>in vitro</italic> co‐culture assay using HepG2 cells and embryonic stem cells to mimic the tumour microenvironment. A knockdown of HIF‐2α via specific shRNA‐induced lymphangiogenesis, which was verified <italic>in vivo</italic> using matrigel plug assays. We confirmed IGFBP1 as a HIF‐2α target gene and provide novel evidence for an important negative role of HIF‐2α in the regulation of lymphangiogenesis by inducing IGFBP1. <graphic position="anchor" mimetype="image" xlink:href="ark:/27927/pgjr8wkhg3" orientation="portrait" xlink:type="simple" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" /></p> </abstract>
