Abstract

<abstract abstract-type="author-highlights" id="abs0005"> <title id="sect0005">Highlights</title> <sec> <p id="spar0005"> <list id="lis0005"> <list-item id="lsti0005"> <label></label> <p id="par0005">We have analysed 8740 cases of mesothelioma submitted to the UK National Lung Cancer Audit.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0010"> <label></label> <p id="par0010">The dataset has excellent recording of age, sex, and performance status but poor recording of disease stage.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0015"> <label></label> <p id="par0015">Only 67% of patients have anti-cancer treatment, and radical surgical treatment is uncommon.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0020"> <label></label> <p id="par0020">Median survival of 9.5 months is strongly related to histological subtype and performance status.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0025"> <label></label> <p id="par0025">There is a marked variation in process and outcome for patients between organisations.</p> </list-item> </list> </p> </sec> </abstract>
