- <abstract abstract-type="graphical" xml:lang="en" id="adom201400472-abs-0001"> <title> <x xml:space="preserve">Abstract</x> </title> <p> <bold>In the pursuit of all‐optical brain‐like computing</bold>, optical axons and photonic synapses are demonstrated using metal‐sulphide microfibers, which allow the generation and propagation of optical action potentials. This gives rise to an all‐optical implementation of a number of interneuronal and intraneuronal communication protocols that underlie learning and cognition in the brain. <graphic position="anchor" mimetype="image" xlink:href="ark:/27927/pgjn1brmtn" orientation="portrait" xlink:type="simple" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" /></p> </abstract>
