<abstract abstract-type="author-highlights" id="abs0005"> <title id="sect0005">Highlights</title> <sec> <p id="spar0070"> <list id="lis0005"> <list-item id="lsti0005"> <label></label> <p id="par0005">We review chemical burns in children presenting to a tertiary burns centre.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0010"> <label></label> <p id="par0010">Chemical burn accounted for 1% of all burns, with the majority occurring in toddlers and teenagers.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0015"> <label></label> <p id="par0015">Most injuries occurred at home and involved cleaning products or aerosols.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0020"> <label></label> <p id="par0020">Less than 45% had received adequate first aid.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0025"> <label></label> <p id="par0025">Child resistant packaging and improved supervision would have prevented many of these injuries.</p> </list-item> </list> </p> </sec> </abstract>
