- <abstract abstract-type="author-highlights" id="abs0005"> <title id="sect0005">Highlights</title> <sec> <p id="spar0005"> <list id="lis0005"> <list-item id="lsti0005"> <label></label> <p id="par0005">The reasons for admission to a tertiary burns centre in children with a burns injury was determined.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0010"> <label></label> <p id="par0010">A majority (45%) were admitted for severity, followed by region of body burnt (24%).</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0015"> <label></label> <p id="par0015">One third were admitted for reasons other than the biology of the burn itself.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0020"> <label></label> <p id="par0020">It is not just children with severe burns who are admitted.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0025"> <label></label> <p id="par0025">Multiple non-biological factors directly impact inpatient admissions.</p> </list-item> </list> </p> </sec> </abstract>
