Abstract

<abstract> <title> <x xml:space="preserve">Abstract</x> </title> <sec> <p>A 70-year-old man presented with a 2-month history of progressive weakness of his arm and leg. During surgery, a frozen biopsy revealed an ill-defined rosette-like structure, mitosis, and hypervascularity. A diagnosis of ependymoma was made and a gross total resection was performed. However, the result of the definitive biopsy was not ependymoma, but small cell lung cancer. This report highlights the need for a close clinicopathologic correlation to enable the correct intraoperative frozen section diagnosis of spinal tumors, including a careful examination of the histologic features and operative and radiologic tumor findings.</p> </sec> </abstract>
