- <abstract abstract-type="normal"> <title>ABSTRACT</title> <p>Deformation behavior of MoSi<sub>2</sub> has been studied by micropillar compressions of single crystalline specimens prepared by focused ion beam (FIB) technique as a function of crystal orientation at room temperature. Activation of the {011}<100> and {01<inline-formula><alternatives><graphic mimetype="image" position="anchor" xlink:href="ark:/27927/pgh3s17jp83" xlink:type="simple" orientation="portrait" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" /><tex-math><![CDATA[$\overline 3$]]></tex-math></alternatives></inline-formula>}<331> slip systems were observed in the micropillars compressed along [<inline-formula><alternatives><graphic mimetype="image" position="anchor" xlink:href="ark:/27927/pgh3s17jp7j" xlink:type="simple" orientation="portrait" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" /><tex-math><![CDATA[$\overline 1$]]></tex-math></alternatives></inline-formula>10] and [0 15 1], respectively. The CRSS values for each slip system exhibit an approximate power law relationship with the edge length of micropillar. The {01<inline-formula><alternatives><graphic mimetype="image" position="anchor" xlink:href="ark:/27927/pgh3s17jp9n" xlink:type="simple" orientation="portrait" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" /><tex-math><![CDATA[$\overline 3$]]></tex-math></alternatives></inline-formula>}<331> slip exhibit much stronger size-dependence than the {011}<100> slip system.</p> </abstract>
