<abstract abstract-type="author-highlights" id="abs0005"> <title id="sect0005">Highlights</title> <sec> <p id="spar0060"> <list id="lis0010"> <list-item id="lsti0005"> <label></label> <p id="par0005">The increase in incidence of cutaneous malignant melanoma in Denmark in recent years is characterised mainly by lower stage and a higher proportion of superficial spreading tumours.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0010"> <label></label> <p id="par0010">Greater awareness may explain the incidence increase, but the increase during 2004–2008 can be attributed to modernisation of the Danish Cancer Register.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0015"> <label></label> <p id="par0015">A relatively large increase in nodular melanoma points to a genuine increase in melanoma risk.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0020"> <label></label> <p id="par0020">Five-year relative survival has significantly improved in both male and female patients.</p> </list-item> </list> </p> </sec> </abstract>
