<abstract abstract-type="author-highlights" id="abs0005"> <title id="sect0005">Highlights</title> <sec> <p id="spar0070"> <list id="lis0005"> <list-item id="lsti0005"> <label></label> <p id="par0005">We examined the occurrence of candidemia among patients with severe burns.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0010"> <label></label> <p id="par0010">In the present cohort we found a high candidemia incidence rate of 11%.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0015"> <label></label> <p id="par0015">An AIC based model selection procedure for logistic regression models was utilized.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0020"> <label></label> <p id="par0020">We identified gastrointestinal complications as independent risk factor for Candidemia.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0025"> <label></label> <p id="par0025">A prophylactic antifungal therapy in burn patients with gastrointestinal complications might be warranted.</p> </list-item> </list> </p> </sec> </abstract>
