- <abstract abstract-type="author-highlights" id="ab0010"> <title id="st0010">Highlights</title> <sec> <p id="sp0010"> <list id="ulist0010"> <list-item id="u0010"> <label></label> <p id="p0010">Chicken thrombocytes express Toll-like receptors (TLRs) that are important for anti-microbial host defense.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="u0015"> <label></label> <p id="p0015">Thrombocytes demonstrate differential responses when stimulated with various TLR ligands.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="u0020"> <label></label> <p id="p0020">TLR4 and TLR2 ligand stimulation increased IL-6 expression while TLR3 and TLR7/8 ligand increased nitric oxide production.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="u0025"> <label></label> <p id="p0025">Compared to MQ.NCSU macrophages, thrombocytes were able to respond much more rapidly when exposed to TLR ligands.</p> </list-item> </list> </p> </sec> </abstract>
