<abstract abstract-type="author-highlights" id="abs0005"> <title id="sect0005">Highlights</title> <sec> <p id="spar0140"> <list id="lis0010"> <list-item id="lsti0005"> <label></label> <p id="par0005">We assessed improvement in glycemic control in Rwanda youth with diabetes.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0010"> <label></label> <p id="par0010">2 yr after introduction of education and A1c testing mean A1c fell from 11.2 to 9.8%.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0015"> <label></label> <p id="par0015">Hypertension was very common affecting over 40% of the population during follow up.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0020"> <label></label> <p id="par0020">Different patterns of glycemic control over time were noted.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0025"> <label></label> <p id="par0025">Those with worst control measured their glucose less frequently.</p> </list-item> </list> </p> </sec> </abstract>
