- <abstract abstract-type="author-highlights" id="abs0005"> <title id="sect0005">Highlights</title> <sec> <p id="spar0005"> <list id="lis0005"> <list-item id="lsti0005"> <label></label> <p id="par0005">We examine which complement activation pathway is involved for timely liver recovery following an acute toxic injury.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0010"> <label></label> <p id="par0010">We utilized mice deficient in <italic>C1qa</italic>, <italic>C4</italic> and <italic>Factor D</italic>, lacking the classical, classical/MBL, and alternative pathways of complement activation.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0015"> <label></label> <p id="par0015">Factor D-deficient mice had worse liver injury compared to other genotypes.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0020"> <label></label> <p id="par0020">Factor D-deficient mice were unable to adequately clear injured tissue.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0025"> <label></label> <p id="par0025">We demonstrate the importance of the alternative complement pathway in facilitating opsonization of damaged tissue for a timely reparative process following an acute toxic liver injury.</p> </list-item> </list> </p> </sec> </abstract>
